Abstract
Because more than 30,000 servers with millions of documents has appeared in the Russian segment of Web, the task of cataloguing its resources is urgent. The first catalogues of Russian network resources were developed in 1995. Now there are dozens of catalogues and search engines. The best search engines (Rambler, Yandex, and Aport) and catalogues (AU, and List) are turning into portals and give good search facilities for serious researchers and mass users. We present a comparative description and discuss the experience of its creation and maintenance.
