Abstract
All dielectric fibers with a uniform core and multi-layered cladding have been analyzed using modal analysis and beam propagation methods. It has been shown that multi-layered fibers can provide an alternative to photonic crystal fibers for large-core amplifiers and the active elements of fiber lasers
