Abstract
Interest in reform in engineering education has led to an examination of the roles of learning science and learning technology in developing effective education in bioengineering. Institutions seeking to improve bioengineering education should consider structural changes that will provide learning science and learning technology support for faculty efforts. Experience in the VaNTH ERC indicates that a strong emphasis on bioengineering subject matter is necessary for faculty motivation, but learning science and technology can provide methods and tools for efficient realization of new approaches to instruction.
