Abstract
Building software for reuse justifies the extra effort needed to identify and capture recurring patterns in software design into a framework. These recurring patterns exist at all levels of granularity. We report on work in progress towards designing a GIS (geographical information system) framework. A GIS subdomain is identified based on a recurring pattern. The central feature of the domain is the linear spatial objects. We develop a scheme for representing linear space in urban systems. Many applications concerning urban systems can be modelled with this representation of linear space
