Abstract :
Computer simulation of power systems and protective relays helps engineers to understand the behaviour of the network and the protection system during faults and other disturbances. These simulations help in assessing the reliability of the protection system for different fault scenarios and can be of great help for protection engineers to carry out setting adjustments to increase the reliability and selectivity of the protection relays. In this work, the modeling of a 400/220kV transmission substation, with the complete protection system is elaborated. Using the model developed the operating response of each protection and control relay and the associated circuit breakers are monitored and stored in an event data base, suitable for knowledge extraction studies.
