Abstract :
A leaky wave antenna using an asymmetric image nonradiative dielectric (NRD) guide is proposed. When compared with the leaky wave antenna using an ordinary image NRD guide, the impedance bandwidth has increased more than three times. Moreover, by using a staircase dielectric strip, the gain bandwidth can be increased from 0.8% to 2.2%. For further improvement, bent metal plates can be applied instead of vertical metal plates to obtain a 2.7% gain bandwidth. Stable radiation patterns are observed across the operating frequency range.
