Abstract :
Current application studies indicate than an emerging customer demand for high-speed services will impose additional requirements on the way telecommunication operating companies plan and implement the network. The authors identify a number of promising services, review the economic and strategic drivers for such services, and examine the requirements imposed by these services on access planning and the future access network. They conclude that these services can be best supported by a network based on the new Exchange Carrier Standards Association T1X1 SONET standard
