Abstract :
Accurate evaluation of the direct-strike lightning protection is a key point in the design of transmission lines, while how to properly describe the propagating progress of lightning leader determines the accuracy of lightning protection evaluation. Fractal model of lightning is adopted by some researchers due to its similarity in appearance to natural lightning, however, as a result of the randomness of natural lightning discharge, distribution of strike points is actually a statistical result. In this paper, a numerical model for fractal simulation and corresponding computer program are established. Taking a certain transmission line as example, analysis in terms of statistics is proposed and comparisons are made with traditional electrogeometric model(EGM) and leader progression model(LPM).
