A discussion is presented of various approaches for the fiber-based broadband integrated services digital network. Emphasis is placed on residential area use, focusing on service aspects, system architecture, and transmission technology from the viewpoint of video signal transport. Two methods used to realize broadband subscriber networks are described in detail
