Abstract :
Power quality is acquiring increased attention in the present power system environment. Increased use of sensitive and nonlinear loads in electrical power systems and the rapid growth of renewable energy sources are the major causes of poor power quality. The most regular power quality situations are voltage dip, voltage swell, harmonic contents and so on. Among these, voltage sag is considered as the most severe power quality problem. All sorts of power quality problems can be solved by the custom power devices. The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is recognized as a successful sort of custom power unit for voltage sag mitigation due to its capacity to manage active power flow, less cost and higher energy capacity. In this paper, the performance of DVR under Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) are studied using simulations. The Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) method is used for sag detection and generation of modulating signal. Simulation works are performed in PSCAD/EMTDC software.
