Abstract :
A description is given of a data translation tool developed explicitly for engineering data. It is based on the ROSE 1.0 object-oriented engineering database system. The ROSE data model is flexible enough to handle a wide variety of engineering data structures, and the ROSE extended relational algebra provides the primitive operations needed to edit these data structures to translate engineering data from one form to another. The motivation, design, and implementation of this data translation tool are described, along with lessons learned in its development
