Abstract
In this paper we investigate the impact of self-similar traffic pattern on uplink performance of IEEE 802.16 MAC layer protocol for real time polling (RTPS) and best effort (BE) services in terms of throughput, average delay. Our simulation results show that self similar traffic, compared to traditional traffic pattern such as Poisson traffic produce longer delay and larger probability of request collision for BE service flow. Our results provide more insights for providing quality of service (QoS) guarantees to the sources with different QoS requirement as a function of network load.
