Abstract
This paper presents a review on the various strategies for frequency regulation used in wind energy conversion system (WECS). The capability of two wind turbines (WT), doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) and permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) to participate in the primary frequency regulation and offer primary reserve is discussed in this paper. This paper examines the role of VSWTs, in frequency regulation and control with different levels of wind penetration into the system. The survey includes combined application of both inertial support and permanent frequency response using droop characteristic. Reference[22] gives an optimization method of tuning the DFIG controllers to enhance their ability in frequency regulation.
