Abstract :
Condition assessment of power electronic components in electric vehicles is essential in order to increase reliability of power electronics converter. Therefore, designing power electronic converters with fewer numbers of switches will increase the reliability of power circuit. In this paper, an integrated battery-powered Switched-Reluctance Motor (SRM) drive with on-board battery charging capability is presented. The embedded components of SRM windings and drive converter are used to form an on-board battery charger. In driving mode, the SRM drive is powered by a voltage booster to establish well-regulated DC-link voltage from the battery. The energy stored in SRM windings during the demagnetization of each stroke is recovered back to the battery. In battery charging mode, a buck-boost Switch-Mode Rectifier (SMR) converter is formed by utilizing SRM windings and drive components to charge the battery from utility with a suitable power quality.
