  • Abstract
Today, as the number of vehicles increases, so do the risks from the automobile accidents. The current trend in vehicular safety is not only to reduce the extent of seriousness of road accidents but to completely prevent their occurrence. For this to happen, the new safety systems should be able to guide drivers of hazardous situations well in advance so that they can take necessary course of preventive action. Automotive Industry worldwide is considering inter vehicle communications will play a critical role helping to improve vehicular safety. Two promising areas of inter vehicular communication are Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) communication.V2V communication deals with vehicles sharing information with each other and providing safety warnings to the driver. While, V2I mainly targets updates on road conditions, event information, weather or any accident prone areas. In this paper we will discuss regarding our proposed SAVER system architecture and in house developed applications for V2V & V2I.The applications include speed limit and driver advisory for vehicular safety. We also evaluatedthe above mentioned applications both in lab as well as in real field environment.
