[Symposium general chairs´ Welcome to ISMAR 2011]

Welcome to the Tenth IEEE and ACM International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR 2011)! We are especially proud that this year´s symposium is being held in Basel, in the center of Europe. Augmented Reality is indeed now attracting the attention of a large audience and of industry. Our industry panel will address the current breakthrough of Augmented Reality and identify the success factors for Augmented Reality business models. Our three keynote speakers: Oliver Grau, an art historian and media theorist, Mark Bolas, a research scientist, an artist, and a designer exploring perception and intelligence, and Adrian David Cheok, a research scientist focusing on mixed reality, HCI, wearable computers and ubiquitous computing, will approach the subject of Mixed and Augmented Reality and its boundaries from different and surprising angles.
