Abstract
This paper presents the design of an ozone generator using solar cells as an energy source. 12 V dc from solar panels is transferred and converted to a dc voltage of -8 kV with ripple frequency of 15 kHz. It was tested and compared with normally negative dc in terms of the capability of ozone production. Air is passed through electrode sets to split and recombine to form ozone by corona discharge. For electrode design, the concept is based on gas ionization in highly nonuniform field. Point-to-plane electrodes are selected and tested to find out the appropriate design. The prototype system can generate ozone gas from air at approximately 20 mgO3/hr
