Abstract :
The paper describes design and implementation of low cost flexible production units for assembly, inspection and other sequential tasks while maintaining an open system architecture. Using device profiling all components of the cell are connected to the installation bus. Bus communications are managed by the production unit controller supervising the cell operation. Information is passed to higher layers of automation via an intelligent gateway
