Abstract :
Image-to-Device color gamut mapping is one of the most important trends in gamut mapping work. And many researchers have studied more in the area of new and common method for gamut mapping. In this paper, the original images gamut was studied. And we proposed four properties of image gamut including gamut volume, color distribution density, projection on a*b* plane and smoothness. The properties of several kinds of digital images, shadow image (Red Couch), highlight image (Wedding), group portraits image (Younger of Different Skin Colors), lady portrait image, neutral gray image, full-tone image (Fruits), and memory color image (Bridge with Roof) were investigated. The experiments indicated that there were distinct differences among them. The same gamut mapping methods were used for those above original images and the mapping results were evaluated. The results showed that the gamut mapping results were different when various images with different gamut properties were mapped using the same method. It indicated that the quality of color gamut mapping was influenced by the original image gamut properties. The results help to study on new common color gamut mapping algorithms.
