Abstract :
The IEEE 802.16e standard serves as the backhaul of broadband wireless access in the emerging fourth-generation mobile networks. Deploying relay stations as defined in IEEE 802.16j enhances the coverage area and throughput of the IEEE 802.16e. In this paper, we study the problem of relay selection for a wireless cooperative network in context of IEEE 802.16j emerging standard. We propose two selection methods: Best relay selection method, which selects optimal relay station for each subchannel and Nearest relay selection method, which also is performed in pre-subchannel mode. We provide analytical approximations of these schemespsilas performance in terms of outage probability. Both theoretical and simulation results show that the best relay selection method can achieve significant gain compared to the nearest relay selection method.
