Abstract
The promotion of multi-core server platform and the popularity of cloud computing applications, making the number of applications for the Ethernet port is also rapid growth in demand. By traditional way to use VMM soft-switch realization multiple virtual machines on a shared network devices brings a series of problems such as significantly increase network packet processing time, decrease network throughput and, increase CPU load etc. Based on I/O hardware virtualization, multiple descriptor queues, receive-side scaling, network packets routing mechanism and other key technologies, this paper describes the design and implementation of a cloud computing-oriented virtual 10-Gigabit NIC. In this NIC, mapping between multiple virtual device queues and multiple CPU cores use queue as the data exchange unit rather than package, by this way we can improve the throughput greatly compared with ordinary NIC.
