Abstract :
QinetiQ has developed a solution to manage a system providing services to customers in a dynamic way. This solution, Sky Dusttrade, is based on an economic model. Radio spectrum is a good example of a valuable but limited resource that needs to be managed as efficiently as possible. There are numerous ways of applying Sky Dusttrade to do this, including trading spectral bands or managing the use of a single band. By trading spectrum in this way, different parts of the spectrum can be shared and aggregated dynamically to utilize the spectrum as efficiently and fairly as possible. The results so far are encouraging and show an improvement in information throughput of around 200% in a bandwidth limited network. A working demonstrator has been constructed at QinetiQ´s resource trading laboratory in Malvern, UK
