  • Abstract
    In spite of rapidly progressing converter based STATCOM technology, traditional FACTS systems have their place in the network designer´s toolbox due to high reliability and low cost in terms of investment and operation. As shown by this paper, there are possibilities to develop systems that are considered as mature. The Main Reactor Concept applied in utility SVC topology represents a new innovation providing benefits in terms of cost savings, improved power quality and increased system availability.
