Abstract
This paper presents the study of novel compact printed elliptical slot antenna with ultrawideband characteristics. The antenna is composed of microstrip line fed rectangular patch and U-shaped tuning stub. Various dielectric substrates are examined for the better performance and characteristics of proposed elliptical slot antenna. Return losses, surface current distributions, farfield radiation patterns and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio values are calculated and graphically represented at frequencies 3.75 GHz and 6.62 GHz respectively. The antenna is nearly omnidirectional over 3.1-10.6 GHz bandwidth. It is shown that proposed antenna with optimized dimensions and Rogers RT 5880 as dielectric substrate has very low Return losses, Impedance bandwidth of 10-12 GHz at VSWR(2:1) when compared to proposed slot antenna using other dielectric substrates.
