Abstract
Traffic simulation is an important approach to studying a real or proposed traffic system. This paper describes a 3D traffic simulation system that is designed and implemented based on the multi-agents theory, that is, the system treats each car as an agent that has decision-making ability. The simulation environment is a virtual environment generated by geographic information system (GIS) database. The traffic model used in the simulation system is a modified car-following model based on UK traffic rules. The system can be used to simulate a traffic system of a real world place/city (if we have geo-data). The initial simulation results show the idea of design and implementation approach is feasible.
