Abstract
This paper reports on progress made towards implementation of a zone access control (ZAC) scheme based upon telematics technologies in Barcelona. This case study is presented as one of a number of integrated developments within the Gaudi project V2027 of the DRIVE programme that is supported by DG XIII of the European Commission, and which seek to facilitate the realisation of a more effective and integrated management of vehicle and passenger traffic demand in cities, Cabrero and St. Laurent. The paper briefly describes how technologies can be applied to achieve zone access control, and how this can be used to manage vehicle traffic demand. The ZAC scheme design for Barcelona is presented and features of the first stage of implementation are discussed
