Abstract
Mesh topology has been actively researched and developed as a key solution to improve the performance and services of wireless communications. To take full advantage of wireless mesh networks, a hierarchy mesh topology, which includes a fixed backbone network and mobile access networks, is presented in this paper. To achieve the optimum performance at a low cost, a hybrid routing protocol is provided for the hierarchy mesh topology, where a proactive or table-drive routing protocol (e.g., OLSR) is reserved for the fixed backbone network, and a reactive or on-demand routing protocol (e.g., AODV) is reserved for mobile access networks. Simulation results show that the hybrid routing protocol can increase system throughput and decrease delay.
