Abstract :
It is shown that the superconducting transition of a thin film with a high sheet resistivity can change the attenuation of surface acoustic waves (SAW) by as much as 30 dB/cm at 700 MHz. Preliminary experimental results are presented for an NbN superconducting film. It is suggested that the observed effect could be used to produce variable-bandwidth SAW filters, reflective array compressor dispersion lines, and switches in SAW delay lines.<>
