Abstract
This paper describes a vehicle-to-vehicle safety communication protocol to improve accident prevention from sudden car braking. We are encouraged by recent work on inter-vehicle communications that studies the importance of enhancing vehicle and occupant safety through forwarding packets that contain information about road traffic and accidents. Our work involves the design and implementation of a protocol that works by combining braking and lane-changing maneuvering around the braking car to offer better results relative to recent work in terms of collision rate reduction. We used the TraNS vehicle network simulators to implement the protocol and generate results that verify its effectiveness and improved performance.
