Abstract :
Client/server computing splits a computer application into tasks that are performed using three separate components. These components consist of a client computer, a server computer, and a network which connects the client to the server, where in most cases the client is a personal computer sitting on a user´s desk. Client/server technology touches just about every part of the computer market, particularly systems management. The purpose of the paper is to summarize some of the most popular models of client/server computing, and to look at how these models provide solutions for today´s business needs, with emphasis on the telecommunications industry. The paper also discusses the benefits client/server technology provides to companies restructuring their management and operations to achieve localized autonomy, with the emphasis on re-engineering business processes that might otherwise be ineffective or impractical to automate
