Abstract :
Two S- and C-band waveguide radiate-and-receive systems were developed as multioctave diagnostics and vacuum loads for high-power microwave bursts (>150 MW) emitted from relativistic magnetrons. The compact devices (<1 m/sup 3/) did not require an anechoic chamber. The complete diagnostic system is described. Its characteristics are: vacuum pressure of 10/sup -5/ torr, frequency range of 2.2 to 5.5 GHz, peak VSWR (voltage standing-wave ratio) less than 2, total insertion loss of 100 to 110 dB, accuracy of +or-1 dB in power and +or-0.1% in frequency, and measured power-handling capability greater than 150 MW rms (root mean square).<>
