Abstract :
The author describes the various important aspects of quality documentation for software used in industrial environments. Since the vast majority of these industrial applications use programmable logic controllers (PLCs), he concentrates on the specific documentation of PLC type devices. Highlights of the paper include a historical overview of significant developments in the field, current features using laptop personal computers, and future trends including advanced concepts. It is emphasized that PLC documentation can no longer be viewed as a stand-alone process but should be incorporated into a complete and comprehensive design package
