Abstract
Periodic broadcasting is known as an efficient technique to support near video-on-demand services for delivering popular videos, since it can reduce the bandwidth requirement for transmitting streaming video to simultaneous viewers. The channel transition problem is an issue of concern regarding the variability of the popularity of a video in periodic broadcasting. We present a novel channel transition scheme over the fast broadcasting (FB) scheme. Our proposed scheme has less bandwidth waste than the existing seamless channel transition (SCT) scheme. In addition, no extra service delay and client buffer are needed in our scheme.
