Abstract
A discussion is presented of the development of an expert system which enables the authors to decide where to insert the data links in order to design the most desirable network configuration. The decision will be based on factors such as traffic load, network performance, network capabilities, users´ requirements, etc. Machine learning capability can be incorporated into such expert systems to monitor the operation of the system. This capability allows the authors to reconfigure the design as they learn about the system in order to optimize system throughput and user requirement
