Abstract
We present design of dielectric resonator antenna for the 2.4-to-2.5 GHz band installed on a printed circuit board with lower and upper metal ground. The antenna is directly fed by the coplanar waveguide. One of the objectives reached in the design process is reduction of the noise emitted by the antenna into the printed board. Conceptually it can be done with trough vias connecting the upper and lower grounds of the board and making a substrate integrated resonator cavity underneath the dielectric resonator antennas; however, this modification changes antenna input impedance and introduces additional degrees of freedom to the design. A feasible way to achieve design requirements for the considered configuration was simulation-driven design optimization exploiting fast surrogate antenna models. Also, this design approach allowed us to meet the specifications imposed on the reflection coefficient and antenna gain without using any matching circuit at the coplanar waveguide input. The presented design approach is general. It can be used by a designer for whom a board antenna is just a one component of the circuitry under work.
