Abstract :
An approach to the creation, utilization and management of alphanumeric data related to parts and drawings are described. These functions are performed by a customized computer program called the Engineering Information System (EIS), which was created in a dBase IV programming environment. The EIS package comprises several dBase IV databases and a computer program written in the dBase IV programming language, that provides user-system interfaces and ensures logical links between different databases. This work presents requirements for the EIS, describes its features, and shows how the CALS (a US DOD initiative for computer-aided acquisition and logistic support) objectives have been addressed at this stage
