Abstract
Several parties in technical communication environments can act as valuable sources of criticism. Members of development teams can comment on technical accuracy and completeness, editors can advise on clarity and style, other writers can provide peer reviews, and managers can add business perspectives. The authors examine the interaction between writer and critic in each of these situations, considering factors that may prevent or affect the process. They encourage better use of constructive criticism by exploring why writers may be reluctant to seek it out and by articulating the perspectives, advantages, and limitations that different critics may bring.<>
