Abstract :
The paper presents an overview of some special power converters, called stacked multicell converters (SMC), with special attention being paid to their control strategy. An SMC is a converter that is used to control high voltages with conventional power semiconductors. This converter has a characteristic configuration composed of p columns and n stacks. It allows the voltage and current stresses on semiconductor components to be reduced and then high output voltages to be attained. The paper begins with a brief explanation of how an SMC works and its control complexity. A complete explanation of a SPWM control strategy by DSP in SMC is clearly given. Simulation and experimental results from a 100 V input voltage and 0.5 A output current prototype complement the work.
