Abstract :
The number of nonlinear loads has increased in power systems increasing the harmonics present and this could cause detrimental effects to the system and users. The harmonic current distortion indices are affected by linear loads connected in parallel to the system. The aim of this paper is to quantify the effect of linear loads on the harmonic indices including Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Individual Harmonic Distortion (IHD) up to 11th order. The linear load to be considered is an Incandescent Lamp (IL) while the nonlinear loads are a Personal Computer (PC), Fluorescent Lamp (FL) and laptop. Laboratory measurements are performed for this purpose.
