Abstract
Tracking of a cord plug is attributed to one of the main causes of fire accident, which is caused by surface leakage current flowing between its electrodes when dust is accumulated in the space between the plug and the outlet and wetted for example by dew condensation. This paper reports two novel detection methods of cord plug tracking. One is to detect the existence of the surface leakage current by superimposing a high frequency signal on a load current instead of detecting the surface current itself. The other is based on characteristics of the surface current itself, where a new physical quantity is introduced.
