A survey of competence development of IT pedagogical cadre

The competence of the graduated IT professionals is strongly dependent on the educational level of their seats of learning which in turn is highly dependent on the competence of their pedagogical cadre. We have studied six IT departments at the universities and technology institutes in Sweden in order to find out the competence level of their pedagogical cadre, and in order to find out whether the studied seats of learning put resources into developing, maintaining and monitoring it. Our results show that the majority of the pedagogical staff at the studied seats of learning is unqualified. The resources put into developing, improving and monitoring their competence are almost nonexistent.
