Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) video technology is becoming increasingly popular, as it can provide stereoscopic perception and immersive experience to end users. Some stereoscopic video coding methods had been developed by utilizing binocular psycho-visual redundancy. However, these methods were based on qualitative analyses and quantitative measurement of the just-noticeable difference threshold between the left and right views was not considered to further improve the coding efficiency. In this paper, a novel asymmetric stereoscopic video coding method is proposed based on the JND threshold. Experimental results show that the proposed method saves bitrate significantly by from 9% to 34% while maintaining good perceptual quality.
