Abstract :
Two relatively new techniques for improving the performance of an adaptive radar beamformer are briefly reviewed. The first concerns the use of a simple penalty function for sidelobe stabilisation. The second is a very effective technique for motion compensation based on extended sample matrix inversion. Some novel ideas based on the concept of an element digitised array radar are then outlined. The concept of range dependent gain adaption, implemented using a domain factorisation technique, is shown to provide levels of sensitivity not hitherto achievable
