Abstract :
A limited short circuit current PM motor is studied based on the segmentation of the rotor magnets. The principle is to reduce the magnetic flux by means of magnets subdivision and an increase of rotor pole number. The effect of magnet segmentation on machine characteristics is analyzed using finite element method (FEM). The short circuit current of designed fault tolerant machine is well limited and does not lead to the damage the winding.
