Abstract :
We have deigned and simulated a compact Rib waveguide based biosensor which could produce a sensitivity of 1.8 × 10-3. Silicon On Insulator wafer is chosen with 1 μm Si which forms the core and 1 μm SiO2 cladding below that as a buffer which minimizes the substrate losses. The waveguide has been designed to support only the fundamental TE and TM modes. The optimum value of rib width W is found to be 2 μm, Slab height h of 1.8 μm could support the fundamental mode.
