Abstract :
MOV has been widely utilized in the power industry due to its high degree of nonlinearity and excellent capability to carry heavy electrical current. And the superconducting technology is a new development in the area of the electrical power supply, but one of difficulties for high temperature superconducting industry coming into our life is over-voltage protection, therefore, it is necessary to study characteristics of MOV at liquid nitrogen temperature for supplying in superconducting industry. An experiment about MOV has been done, and some data are gotten. Based on the MSV and VCC, this paper analyzes these data, and gets the leakage current wave, resistance current wave and capacitive current wave under different voltages. Also characteristics of MOV in low current region at liquid nitrogen temperature and in normal temperature are analyzed correspondingly. The conclusion is that the basic characteristics of MOV at liquid nitrogen temperature are better than normal temperature in low current region
