Abstract :
Loadability of transmission lines is determined by their thermal, voltage and stability limits. A unified power flow controller can be used to increase power transfer limits of transmission lines and consequently operate them close to their thermal limits. This paper investigates the effects of UPFC on power transfer capacity of transmission lines. A unified power flow control (UPFC) can control up to three power system parameters independently. The loadability characteristics of a transmission line with out UPFC and with UPFC by considering its control parameters constraints are developed. The optimized control parameters are used to maximize the power transfer capacity
