Specification of ATM systems - experiences of RM-ODP

This paper is concerned with the application of the reference model for open distributed processing (RM-ODP) and similar techniques to the specification of ATM Systems. Of particular current interest is the development of the proposed European Air Traffic Management System (EATMS), which should be considered as a `system of systems´. RM-ODP is a framework which offers a terminology which may be used to ensure a consistent approach is adopted by all the parties interested in the analysis, design and implementation of large systems.
