Abstract :
The characteristics of the mobile radio channel vary between the features of an AWGN-channel and those of a Rayleigh fading channel. The so far known trellis codes do not meet the requirements of both these channels, because they are either adapted to the AWGN or the Rayleigh fading channel. In this paper we present new multiple trellis codes, which are well suited for the use in the AWGN-channel and the Rayleigh channel and are thus especially suited for the mobile radio channel. A new measure of complexity is introduced which allows a fair comparison between multiple trellis codes of different dimensionalities. It is based on the number of algebraic operations per decoded information bit
