  • Abstract
Net metering is a widespread mechanism which enables consumers to reduce their electricity bills by utilizing self produced electricity from renewable energy resources, it also allows the power producers to sell the excess energy produced to utilities or grid. Photovoltaic system is used widely in net-metering for residential implementation. This study is a feasibility check for implementing net metering in Tamil Nadu and also on analyzes the annual savings of residential electricity consumers. The economic feasibility is analyzed in residential PV systems based on varying consumption pattern as low, medium and high. From this feasibility study, it is evident that net metering is profitable for locations with high consumption.
